Welcome to Simply Yoga!

Hello there and welcome to Simply Yoga, my own simple take for our modern lives on the ancient holistic practice of yoga.

A

So why “Simply” Yoga? Well, over the years I have been fortunate to have practised many different variations of hatha yoga (an umbrella term for any physical yoga practice) – Sivananda, Viniyoga, Jivamukti, Scaravelli-inspired, Feldenkreis, Vinyasa Flow, Restorative, Yin, Kundalini to name but some. These have all to some degree informed my own teaching style, which to me is ‘simply’ yoga.

I aim for a style which is gentle yet encourages intelligent personal challenge and mindful self-inquiry. A style which gives careful consideration to biomechanics, postural alignment and working harmoniously with gravity, yet allows for a flexible individual approach which acknowledges that bodies are not ‘one size fits all’. It is a style which both energises and restores, gently working all parts of the body in a safe way, allowing students to work at their own pace and offering modifications to facilitate accessibility for everybody’s body.

As such my Simply Yoga classes are suitable for all, and enable everyone to make the improvements that will best serve them. This may be physical, for example greater flexibilty, stability, stamina, strength, or tone, or may be supporting improved mental health, stress-management and general well-being by improving mental clarity, concentration and awareness. Integrating these various aspects offers a variety of ‘tools’ for mind, body & spirit and promotes an ability to tap in to the relaxation response to better equip us for our every day challenges, underpinning healthier mind/body connections.

In my classes the focus throughout is on the breath and approaching each small element with the greatest attention to detail, so there are no pre-requisites for a successful practice other than an open mind. Contrary to popular belief, it is this focused self-inquiry rather than your fitness levels which determine what you reap from your practice; the more you dedicate yourself to a regular practice of this kind, the more likely it is that over time that you will feel yoga working its magic.
